The Shortlist, €989

What you receive

This is a shortened example of the document a family gets seven days after the first call.

Example only. The family is fictional and the schools are anonymised, so the school figures show the format, not a real school. The rules and their sources are real.

Your Shortlist · The Example family · a coastal town north of Valencia

1. Your answer in five lines

  1. Your children enter: Child 1, born 2019, 3º Primaria · Child 2, born 2021, 1º Primaria, in September 2027.
  2. Route: público and concertado, because you want a local school and Spanish as the main language.
  3. Where: one admission area for the whole town, so every school in it scores your address the same.
  4. Our main recommendation: School A, with School B and School C as alternatives, because it has two classes per year group and the most Spanish in Primaria.
  5. The date that decides it: the ordinary window in the first half of May 2027 (provisional until the calendar is published in February or March).

2. Your children and the year group they enter

In Spain the year group is set by the calendar year of birth, and places are allocated by year group, not by school (Orden 8/2024, art. 57.b).

ChildBornSeptember 2027Note
Child 120193º PrimariaJoins an existing class: depends on a place in that exact year
Child 220211º PrimariaStart of the stage: more places, more applicants

3. Your shortlist

For each school: what the official register says, and what the school told us when we called, with the date we asked. For público and concertado schools nobody, the school included, can confirm a place before vacancies are published the day before the window opens (Orden 8/2024, art. 26.8). What we give you is how their places usually go.

School A · público · our main recommendation

  • Why it fits your children: two classes per year group, and the most Spanish in Primaria of the three.
  • Language in Primaria: 25% Valencian · 55% Spanish · 20% English (Conselleria register, with the date we checked).
  • How places usually go: the secretaría's answer, in their words, with the date we called.
  • Children joining mid-year: the school's answer, with the date.
  • Costs: free, plus lunch and materials.

A real Shortlist has five to seven schools, each with the full card above.

4. Your calendar and your three routes

  1. Ordinary window in May. With a passport only, a parent or legal guardian files in person at the first-choice school. With a TIE or Cl@ve it can be done online.
  2. July extraordinary phase. For families who could not apply in May, same scoring, only the places left over (Orden 8/2024, art. 55).
  3. Municipal schooling commission once term starts. A free place is guaranteed in the municipality, not at the school of your choice (Decreto 48/2024, arts. 2.2 and 14.1.e).

5. What we did not confirm

Every Shortlist ends with what is still open, why, and the date we check it again. In this example: School C's places, because the secretaría asked us to call back after the first term.
